RaviSoups might just have the best soup in the city (without the attitude of Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi). Behind the soups is Ravi Kanagarajah, a chef and saucier for over 10 years at some of the city’s top kitchens. He opened the very first RaviSoups location at Adelaide and Peter a few years ago and has since opened five more bustling locations. At the original location, the backyard patio is definitely a draw, whereas in the colder months it’s time to move inside to the large, wooden communal table with cosy stools fit for a Hobbit hole. On the menu, there are favourites like the curried apricot and red lentil soup ($8) or the corn chowder with blue crab and Thai basil ($9). But just one whiff of the porcini mushroom wild rice bisque, complete with crispy shallots and truffle oil ($9), and you can’t help but be rendered completely powerless.
