
Located in the Donwood Plaza, Allwyn’s Bakery is serving up uncomplicated classics of Caribbean cuisine. The takeout, cash-only spot is open late, as it has a trusty following of regulars who make their way over from all corners of the GTA. Allwyn’s was originally started by a Jamaican-born chef Donald Simpson and still has the same owner, C. K. Chung, as it did when it opened over 20 years ago. Much of what has allowed for this ongoing success is the quality of the food, which one can tell from just a taste. Allwyn’s jerk sauce is made from scratch daily, and its beef patties and fresh-baked coco bread are delivered fresh daily from its Scarborough off-site facility. The pimento really comes through in the jerk chicken: having left the skin on, these pros know how to bring the people the Caribbean flavours they never knew they missed.
