Popular sports bar is replacing Toronto’s Black Bull Tavern — and it’s opening soon

We now know who’s moving into the spot where the iconic Black Bull Tavern once stood. The historic venue, a fixture at Queen and Soho since 1883, is becoming Score on Queen. After closing in April 2024, the space will get a major facelift while keeping the spirit of its legendary patio.

If you’ve been to the original Score on King, you know they’re all about over-the-top Caesars (topped with everything from entire burgers to onion rings) and epic brunches. They’re set to bring that same high-energy vibe and inventive menu to the new spot.

The Black Bull Tavern’s massive patio was a beloved feature, and Score is set to keep that tradition alive. The old pub was a local legend, from its days as a boarding house with a rough reputation to its more recent status as a go-to for after-work drinks and sunny patio hangouts. After the passing of owner Bobby Taylor, the tavern’s final days saw an outpouring of love from the community, who packed in to raise a last pint before the Black Bull’s final call.

From their Instagram updates, it’s clear that a substantial renovation is underway, promising a modern, dynamic space that retains the essence of the Black Bull’s storied history. Score on Queen is aiming to open its doors in late summer, offering a fresh take on the beloved spot that has been a mainstay for Toronto’s drinkers and diners for decades.

The upcoming Score on Queen marks the third bar for the Score Pub Group, building on the success of their first spot, Score on Davie in Vancouver and their bustling Score on King at King Street East and Church Street in Toronto.
