Paris Olympics Toronto guide: Artistic gymnast Cassie Lee 

Cassie Lee is making her Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games, having been a member of the Canadian senior national team since her senior debut in 2021. This year marks the first time in two decades that Team Canada will have a full team for both men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, presenting Lee with an excellent opportunity to showcase her skills. Here is what you need to know: 

Hometown: Toronto

Sport: Gymnastics

Background: Lee competed in the first-ever FIG Junior World Championships in 2019 where she was Canada’s top finisher in the women’s all-around. She finished 22nd overall.

Lee finished second in the all-around at the 2022 Elite Canada competition with two gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise. She was a member of the 2022 Commonwealth Games team where they won team bronze. The following year, Lee contributed high scores on balance beam and floor exercise to aid in a bronze win for the 2023 Pan Am Games team.

Lee also competed at the 2021 and 2023 FIG World Championships. She finished second in the all-around at the 2023 Elite Canada competition where she took silver on floor exercise.

Lee will begin her collegiate gymnastics career this year as she is set to attend the University of Iowa.

Career highlights: Cassie Lee cinched her first senior Elite Canada all-around title this year after she won gold on her floor exercise and silver on the balance beam.

Where it all started: Lee started gymnastics at age three before she began competing at nine years old.

Fun fact: In addition to listening to Taylor Swift while preparing for competitions, Lee always travels with a polaroid camera and enjoys making bracelets for her Canadian teammates and international friends.

Olympic event date: Artistic gymnastics women’s qualification (July 28).
