North York rabbi arrested for alleged role in fraud case

A 47-year-old man sought in connection with an alleged Manhattan-based immigration fraud mill was recently arrested by Toronto Police near his North York home.

Earl David, or “Rabbi Avraham David” as he was also known, is the alleged ringleader behind a plan to secure status for illegal aliens by setting up allegedly phony United States sponsors.

United States Attorney — Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, based in Manhattan, said that those involved are thought to have racked up millions of dollars filing tens of thousands of fraudulent applications.

“As alleged, Earl David and his many cohorts corrupted the immigration process through a carefully orchestrated scheme that was stunning in its scope and audacity,” he stated in a press release.

The operation ran out of David’s Manhattan law office, the “David Firm,” between 1996 and 2009. David is further alleged to have continued to participate in the scheme after he was allegedly suspended from practising law in 2004.

David, who is currently being held for extradition to the United States, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud through the making of false statements, immigration fraud, conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
