Rome may have the Bocca Della Verita but back in 1930s, Toronto had what looks like a snake head in High Park.
We’re not sure what’s going on in this 1939 pic from Toronto Archives, but we like to think that the funny-looking creature represented a holy snake god. We imagine brave souls venturing up to the statue and sticking one of their feet down the serpent’s throat. If you were a person of honour, you would keep your foot, but two-faced liars wouldn’t be playing much soccer afterwards.
Well, it’d be one way of testing the truth behind all that Toronto the Good stuff, wouldn’t it?
