North York Residents and councillors met recently to discuss the completed “Avenue Road Study.” Created to set rules for development on Avenue Road between Lawrence Avenue and Wilson Avenue, the study was one of three undertaken in 2007.
It calls for small-scale, mid-rise developments of five storeys with larger-scale developments of up to seven storeys at nine identified sites. The study also states that the retail-oriented nature of the road should remain and calls for the creation of more open and green spaces.
Robert Amaron, of the Bedford Park Ratepayers Association, said the study represents a reasonable consensus between involved parties.
“There are actually a number of very positive things,” he said, including the addition of green space and a rebranding of the area, which will benefit local business.
Coun. Karen Stintz said she expects the zoning changes suggested in the study will pass without complication at community council in November: "It was an incredible process whereby the community came together and really had a chance to articulate their vision," she said.
