Toronto’s culture scene is about to go into overdrive with today’s kick-off of Luminato, the city’s uber-festival of arts and creativity. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the 10-day festival with over 150 events promises to be a spectacle not to be missed. But with such an extensive catalogue of awesome creativity, it’s near-impossible to see everything. We made the daunting selection process easier for you with our top-five list of what we’re most excited to see.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

We can’t wait to see what will surely be a visually stunning experience. Two of the world’s best ballet companies, The National Ballet of Canada and The Royal Ballet, join forces to bring Lewis Carroll’s classic fantasy to life in an array of dance, colour, and beautiful costumes.

Habit

This installation project created by Berlin-based artist David Levine seems super cool. It blends live theatre with reality TV as three actors inhabit a house for eight hours a day, going about their business, all the while reciting a script by playwright Jason Grote.

Eric Mead: Bar Magic

Who doesn’t like a little magic in their lives? Join Eric Mead’s interactive show where magic and mind reading are only a part of his unique performance as he attempts to connect and enlighten people with magic.

Tout Comme Elle

Featuring a cast of 50 women, this ambitious undertaking fuses text, movement and song to examine the unique relationship between mothers and daughters. Created by award-winning director Brigitte Haentjens, the piece was a huge success when it debuted in Montreal in 2006.

President’s Choice: 1000 Tastes of Toronto
