Landmark King Street restaurant gets new lease on life

“Beast” is more than a name, it’s the main course at newly opened Beast Restaurant.

Executive chef Scott Vivian says his pig’s head pasta with spaghetti marinated with brazed pork is already a hit with the King West clientele.

But there’s more to the name than the menu suggests. Scott and his wife Rachelle, the pastry chef and manager, named their new business as an ode to their racket.

“For us it represents the beast of working in the restaurant business,” he says. “But we’re both happy having our own place, just the two of us.”

The Vivians took over the former Amuse Bouche location on June 1 and revamped it for their opening in a scant nine days.

They tossed Amuse Bouche’s white tablecloths to expose the natural wood underneath and spruced up the walls with Rachelle’s own artwork. Scott Vivian says the space now feels more like a home — especially because the couple lives upstairs.

“It’s like we’re inviting people into our home and cooking for them,” he says.

Beast is located at 96 Tecumseth St., 647-352-6000.
