Sure, it’s called a manicure, but can it really be masculine? John Allan thinks so.
Enter John Allan’s men’s grooming club, a concept meant to take the haircut beyond the barbershop. With the success of his Chicago and New York City shops, Allan recently opened a Toronto location at The Bay on Queen Street.
“It’s not a pampering palace by any means,” Allan says.
But it is meant to encourage guys to take time for themselves. The point is to take the chore out of getting a haircut and make men’s grooming more relatable.
There’s a valet, a bar and leather club chairs in place of your standard barber’s chair. His signature service includes a scalp massaging shampoo, a conditioning treatment, hot towel, haircut, manicure and shoeshine.
Allan, who began his career as a stylist apprenticing under the legendary Jean Louis David in Paris, has also developed hair, skin care and shaving product lines. A one-time visit will set you back $65. A full year membership runs $720.
