After a three-year hiatus, the annual Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association’s (CCYAA) ‘Celebrity Classic’ returns on July 9 at the University of Toronto Goldring Centre. Celebrity Jeremy Lin will host this year’s basketball game with proceeds benefiting the CCYAA’s new community center and the Lin Foundation.

Lin is joined by superstars Hasan Minhaj and Simu Liu, along with more than twenty personalities from the North American Asian community. The friendly game will bring awareness to anti-Asian hate crimes while drawing attention to talent from the widespread North American Asian community.

The Lin Foundation regularly partners with community grassroots programs steeped in helping underprivileged Asian youth conquer obstacles and break barriers that prevent growth. The CCYAA’s mission to promote sports across the community is well-placed to help the Lin Foundation fulfill its mission.

“I’m excited to partner with the CCYAA and our amazing sponsors to bring the Celebrity Classic back to Toronto, in a much bigger and better way than ever before,” said Lin in a recent press release.

Liu is, of course, one of Toronto’s most recognizable and popular celebrities after his starring role in the Marvel movie Shang Chi. But, fans of the TV show Kim’s Convenience will recognize Liu’s basketball prowess from the popular CBC-TV sitcom’s opening title sequence.

Tickets for the 2022 CCYAA Celebrity Classic will go on sale on June 15th at 12 pm through the Toronto Varsity Blues website.
