Hong Kong-style cafe serves French toast like you’ve never seen before

Located in North York, Good Luck HK Cafe is a Hong Kong-inspired brunch spot that opened back in October 2021.

The menu offers everything from main dishes to small plates and even desserts, to sweeten your visit.

There are plenty of sandwiches to choose from, including the Molten Cheese Pork Chop Piggy Bun, a hamburger-esque sandwich featuring a face-sized pork cutlet, lettuce, tomato, cheese and an egg encasing half the dish. Looking for something hearty to get through these increasingly cold winter days? Curry noodles in a bread bowl should do the trick.

Those in search of Canto-Western snacks will appreciate the appetizer menu, which has plenty of unique items to try, like curry fish balls, rice noodle rolls with a house-made special sauce, and even a grilled cheese featuring deep-fried shrimp.

Their showstopper, however, is even more decadent than all of those menu items combined. Peruse the three-item toast menu for French toast like you’ve never seen before. Good Luck HK Café puts a Hong-Kong spin on a brunch-time fave with sweet and savoury options to suit everyone’s taste. You can choose between the molten salted egg yolk and pork floss, the Ovaltine and condensed milk, or the peanut butter. All of the French toast options are made using super thick-cut slices of bread.

The café’s drink menu is also a nod to Hong Kong, with options like milk teas, coffee, and refreshing juices like lemonade. While you can sweeten to your own individual preferences, the brown sugar cubes are molded into an adorable teddy bear shape, elevating the experience with these comforting, unique touches.

The venue itself is a cozy spot covered floor-to-ceiling in Hong Kong nostalgia, from the wallpaper to the signage and the decorative plates the food is served on. A neon sign that displays the café’s name glows from inside, too, giving the space a retro, cool feel.

For now, the 5533 Yonge Street spot is closed for indoor dining but you can order for pick-up or delivery by calling them directly: (416) 226-8666 or through UberEats or Facedrive.
