Haisai named best new restaurant in Canada

After sending their food critic to more than 200 restaurants across Canada, enRoute Magazine has named celebrated chef Michael Stadtländer’s Haisai as the best new restaurant of 2010.

Haisai, located about two hours northwest of Toronto in the village of Singhampton, is nearby Stadtländer’s famed Eigensinn Farm.

"Dinner here is a fairy tale, the kind with a very happy ending," food writer Sarah Musgrave said Thursday in a press release.

Two Toronto restaurants, Local Kitchen and Wine Bar and Buca, also made the cut.

Musgrave praised Local Kitchen and Wine Bar  for its "post-pretentious" attitude and from-scratch menu offerings and said Buca’s funghi pie, served with a dandelion salad with figs and crispy pig ears, was "superlative."
