Queen West institution The Drake Hotel announced today that it is taking on the acclaimed Ted Corrado as executive chef. Formerly known for his culinary flair and local flavours at c5, Corrado will oversee the research and development of the menus at The Drake Hotel and the soon-to-open Drake Devonshire Inn in Wellington, Ont.
During Corrado’s run at c5, the restaurant was regarded as one of the best in the city (Joanne Kates ranked it at number 37 in her top 100 list in 2010). Corrado was unexpectedly replaced by chef Corbin Tomaszeski in 2011, who took a more accessible approach with c5.
Meanwhile, The Drake’s Darren Glew — who replaced Anthony Rose as chef last spring — will retain his position as head chef at The Drake Hotel, working in collaboration with Corrado.
It will be interesting to see what Corrado has in mind for The Drake; we’ll update as we learn more.
