Drink This: the Gladstone Hotel’s Blackberry G&T

The Gladstone has been a hotbed for culture in Toronto since before the west end was cool. Home to anything artsy under the sun, this month sees Becky Comber, a photo-based artist, set up camp in the hotel for the duration of the CONTACT Photography Festival. Meanwhile, for food lovers, the Food Network’s Bob Blumer has recently taken a stab at the decorative arts, collaborating on the so-called Surreal Gourmet room dolled up in marshmallow pillows and, naturally, a Froot Loops armoire.

In addition to hosting thought-provoking works of art, the hotel is also a place to commingle over post-work beverages. Their take on a classic G&T, available throughout the hotel, starts with muddled blackberries and mint leaves ($11.30). Beefeater 24 gin is layered on top of the juice and the drink is finished with tonic, making for a refreshing twist on the gin and tonic that’s well-suited to those who desire a touch less bitterness than what’s found in the original ’tail.
