Alan Voves likes burgers, and he has a thing for a nice glass of wine, too. The restaurateur had a light bulb moment: why not combine his two loves in a neighbourhood restaurant? Enter Burger Cellar.
The restaurant, soon to open near Yonge and Lawrence in the old Chega location, offers up gourmet burgers, of the black Angus, Kobe, lamb, turkey and vegetarian varieties, as well as non-burger options such as shrimp cocktail and calamari. But instead of a pint of Mill Street’s finest, customers will select from one of 24 wines available by the glass in three- or six-ounce pours.
“I think it’s a grand idea,” says Voves, who points south of the border where the trend emerged. Voves is currently refurnishing the space and is planning on an October opening.
Burger Cellar is located at 3391 Yonge St., 647-345-0084.
