This week has been hot enough to literally fry stuff on the sidewalk. In Death Valley, lovers of rogue literalism have been getting so carried away with their curbside cooking that officials had to put out an official kibosh.
Here in Toronto, the team at Cheesewerks decided to make this scorcher work for them by cooking a grilled cheese sandwich on the pavement. They posted a short video of it on Instagram yesterday. It’s stripped-bare street food, sans bureaucracy. That is, until the trend gets out of control and RoFo is forced to quash street-side cooking Death Valley-style.
(For the record, we called Cheesewerks and found that while it was hot enough to cook on the sidewalk yesterday, this particular sandwich was taken to the stove for a little extra browning — for aesthetic purposes).
