Drink This: the pina colada from Julie’s Cuban

Hiding out among Dovercourt’s hodgepodge of houses, Julie’s Cuban is a wonderful little neighbourhood find. Those lucky enough to stumble upon it after sunset can’t help but be enchanted by the glow of the twinkly lights beckoning from inside. There, against a backdrop of Cuban beats and a wall heaving with tchotchkes, locals tuck into fresh ceviche or arroz and frijoles, dreaming of Havana.

Though the nights are rapidly cooling, it’s still almost possible to pretend it’s a midsummer’s eve when sipping on an admittedly un-Cuban pina colada ($9). This admittedly tacky vacation fave stars Malibu rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice. Served in a curvaceous daiquiri glass, the bevvy is dolled up to the nines with a maraschino cherry and — what else? — a pink umbrella.
