Drink This: Northwood’s Lady Grey Sour

A stone’s throw from Christie Pits, Northwood has been a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Locals perch on seats overlooking the Bloor West street scene, or they sit by the bar while Ana Wolkowski pours her simple yet elegant cocktails.

The bar manager, who hopped over from Disgraceland down the street, was aiming for an accessible cocktail menu with reasonably priced tipples. Her signature drink is the so-called Lady Grey Sour ($10).

Wolkowski infuses rye with her house blend of Earl Grey tea, featuring a black tea base alongside notes of lavender, rose hip, rose petal and bergamot. The beverage is finished with both fresh lemon juice and lemonade simple syrup, and is jazzed up with some freshly cracked black pepper.

The result? A cocktail that's slightly sweet and soothing — a welcome end to the day.

Northwood, 815 Bloor St. W., 416-846-8324
