Last week we reported that chef Patrick Kriss had parted ways with Acadia, and now chef Matt Blondin — also ex-Acadia — has announced that he is no longer affiliated with Momofuku Daishō. That means two of Toronto’s most talented chefs are now apparently free agents.
Sue Chan, a publicist for Momofuku, confirmed the departure.
“Matt Blondin has left Momofuku to explore new opportunities and endeavors,” she wrote in an email. “He was an integral part of the opening team at Momofuku Toronto. He will be missed.”
Chan says that Momofuku Toronto’s executive chef, Sam Gelman, along with Shōtō’s chef de cuisine, Mitchell Bates, will oversee Daishō and Shōtō. Meanwhile, Paula Navarrete, who was part of Noodle Bar Toronto’s opening team, has been promoted to sous chef at Daishō.
No word yet on where Blondin is headed next.
