For years, Cindy Wahler’s friends and family gushed over her homemade cookies.
But it wasn’t until spring 2021 that Wahler, who is a psychologist, author, and leadership coach, decided to turn her baking hobby into something more serious.
“I think I suffer from a little bit of imposter syndrome,” Wahler says with a laugh. “People would constantly tell me how great my cookies were, and I always just figured they were just being kind. But then I thought to myself, ‘if not now, when?’ and I decided to start my side hustle.”
Bite Me Cookie is Toronto’s latest go-to spot for when a craving for homemade cookies hits. Despite her full-time job, Wahler whips up batch after batch of delicious cookies, and so far, she says the response has been fantastic.
“For me, baking is really a creative outlet, and I have so much fun with it,” Wahler says. “Part of the menu is actually designed by my repeat customers. whatever they want, I’m happy to make, and often, the creations are so popular I end up keeping them.”
Some of Bite Me Cookie’s most popular cookie flavours include the Chocolate Chunk with Sea Salt, Kinder (chunks of Kinder Surprise chocolate), and the Love Knot Pretzel, which features hunks of dark chocolate and whole pretzels. The Shuffle My Ruffle is another up-and-coming favourite, and features crumbled bits of plain Ruffles chips mixed with hunks of chocolate.
Altogether, Bite Me Cookie currently offers 20 unique flavours. Cookies cost $25 and are sold by the dozen, however, orders of two dozen have a special price of $45.
Wahler has also created the perfect guilt-free solution for those looking to indulge: bags of Cookie Bites (mini versions of the cookies) are also sold in bags of two for $20.
Cookie orders can be placed via Bite Me’s Instagram account. Delivery is available Monday to Friday, but one day’s notice must be provided, although, Wahler says, that’s not always a dealbreaker.
“I’ve had people email me, hungry late at night, and I’ll do it,” she says, when asked what the cut-off time for delivery is. “I think my latest order was midnight, because why not? This new venture brings joy to so many people and I love that I’ve been able to connect with others during these times.”
