It’s been under construction for almost four years, but the first townhouse development at Concord Park Place — land formerly owned by Canadian Tire — is almost ready for occupancy. The 42-acre property at Leslie Street and Sheppard Avenue East, was sold to Concord Adex Developments Corp. in 2006.
The project calls for up to 40,000 condominium units, a public park, a community centre, and a public library.
“That site was approved back in 2002,” said local councillor David Shiner. “It’s been a dustbowl for so long, it will be nice to see it occupied.”
He said the developers are committed to a number of public art pieces, which he hopes will make the neighbourhood “one of the most beautiful in North York.”
Gabriel Leung, director of development for Concord Adex, said sales for the first building have been steady, expects they will pick up when more units are available for viewing. He said excavation has also started on the next two buildings.
But as far as the community centre, public park and other public amenities go, Leung said details are still being worked out.
“We’re working with the city, especially the local councillors, to determine the best design for things like the community centre,” said Leung.
