Elton John bought a penthouse in this futuristic new Toronto condo building

Yes, it’s true – Elton John is the latest person to brave the Toronto housing market with the purchase of a sprawling penthouse suite in the architectural marvel that is the King Toronto condo complex!

John shared the news of his recent purchase made with his husband (Canadian David Furnish) and two sons during a Globe and Mail profile released on Wednesday. They, of course, will be occupying one of the penthouses of the building. Theirs is dubbed The Treehouse for the actual tree that grows inside of it. The two-storey unit features four separates terraces and 2,602 square feet of space. As if the designers knew Elton John was coming, the sketch of the Toronto penthouse includes a tiny piano on the first floor.

The penthouse features a custom brass kitchen, tea rooms, wine cellars and more.

King Toronto is certainly fit for a knight: the building, designed by famous Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, features stacked glass boxes with live trees growing between each unit. The penthouses themselves each took “several” years to design according to the condo website, and they were the last to be sold. “Which is what they deserve, given that each is essentially a custom-designed single family home, built atop a mountain,” the site says.

The building itself will also be home to an indoor-outdoor pool, hot tub, spa, gym, outdoor terrace and party room. Residents of the building might be lucky enough to run into the musician as he plays pool in the party room when the building eventually opens!

Construction is still underway, with a targeted completion date near the end of 2023. Prices are upwards of $1.5 million for each unit, so don’t hold onto any hopes that you’ll be neighbours with the Rocket Man next year! Though maybe we’ll be lucky to catch a glimpse of him out and about on the streets of Toronto when he eventually moves in.
