Getting into a winter slump? The best way to shake up the season and get yourself out of hibernation is a new experience in the city — and the Canadian Opera Company (COC) is making that easy!

The opera is a cultural experience that anyone can enjoy, and there’s an extra perk for those under 30: the COC’s Opera Under 30 program! You can snag a ticket for yourself and a friend (who can be any age!) for just $22 each.

Don Pasquale

This season, Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen is a colourful woodland story that begins this Friday, Jan. 26 and runs until Feb. 16, with the company offering a Relaxed Performance on Feb. 13, to welcome adults and children who may benefit from a more casual opera experience, including caregivers and disabled visitors.

Also, from Feb. 2-24, enjoy incredible music paired with high-tech set designs by Es Devlin — who has designed for the queen herself, Beyonce — with Mozart’s Don Giovanni, a story that’s all about relationship karma.

Interested in making the opera a new tradition? The lineup for the rest of the season is going to be amazing.

Delve into a fun comedy featuring costumes with a Mad Men-inspired flair as Donizetti’s Don Pasquale takes the stage from April 26-May 18.

Or, if you’re more into revenge tales, try Cherubini’s Medea — this burn-it-to-the-ground thriller is full of the same twisted vengeance as Gone Girl and runs from May 3-17.

And, if enjoying a performance in another language intimidates you, don’t worry: English SURTITLES™   are projected on top of the stage throughout, and the music is so beautiful you’ll barely be focusing on the words!

Make a fun night of it and dress your best with friends —  located right at Osgoode Station and minutes from the GO Station at Union, it’s easy to grab dinner before your show at one of the trendy restaurants nearby. And with every opera taking place at Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, this stunning building is the perfect, naturally lit backdrop for Instagram-ready photos.

Right now the COC is offering an exclusive promo code for readers — use COC15 for 15 per cent off your ticket purchase.

Now is your chance to add some culture and art to your regular routine this season — and it won’t cost you much to try it!
