Contemporary Italian means more than just ravioli

The Avenue and Davenport area is bursting with Italian restaurants, but Silvio Spano believes Ceno (“to dine” in Latin) offers something more.

New to the neighbourhood, Spano and co-owner/chef Mario Feola rooted Ceno in contemporary Italian cuisine.

“In Canada, classic Italian is cannelloni and ravioli, but we don’t eat like that any more,”says Spano. “Our cuisine is more from the last 15 or 20 years.”

Patrons of Ceno can expect Mediterranean influences on the menu as well as Asian.

Spano came to Canada seven years and opened a restaurant in Concord. Feola had his own in Woodbridge. They sold their individual businesses to collaborate on Ceno and take their skills downtown.

Feola runs the kitchen, along with Bruno Soleri, while Spano helms the dining room.

Ceno is located at 137 Avenue Rd., 647-352-8822.
