Charity box theft shocks locals

Days after a video of the theft of a cancer charity box from a Richmond Hill restaurant went viral, a woman has turned herself in.

On May 23, a 63-year-old woman from Richmond Hill turned herself in to the York Regional Police [YRP] #2 District Headquarters and was placed under arrest. She was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of a property obtained by crime under $5,000. Police say the accused grabbed the charity box after placing her order, while the employee’s back was turned. When a security video of the brazen crime surfaced, locals were horrified.

There is no word yet from YRP on whether or not the amount stolen has been recovered and whether or not it will be returned to the charity.
