Best places to watch the Toronto Pride Parade

This Sunday’s Pride Parade may be the perfect antidote to last weekend’s violent show of G20 protesters. Instead of broken windows and vandalism, expect Yonge Street to be filled with loud and proud partygoers. For those interested in watching the celebrations, PostCity.com has picked the top five spectator spots along the parade route.

Just Desserts patio

Who doesn’t like to celebrate with cheesecake and a Spanish coffee? This Yonge and Wellesley dessert shop offers a raised patio fronting Yonge, which means you can sit back and watch the parade over the heads of bystanders. Here you can have your cake and eat it too

555 Yonge St., 416-963-8089

Courtyard by Marriott hotel

If you’re looking for a room with a view, than the Courtyard by Marriott is for you. Several rooms offer a porch overlooking the parade, so why not lounge in a robe, order up a bottle of champagne and make a toast to tolerance in our great city. Rooms start at $199 per night. If you’re going to celebrate, you might as well celebrate in style.

475 Yonge St., 416-924-0611

Duke of Gloucester pub

If you’re one for a pint over a crowd of people, then this second-floor British pub may be the spot for you. Sit at a table by one of the five windows facing Yonge Street, order some curry fries and a beer, and take in the parade in a most relaxed manner.

649 Yonge St., 416-961-9704

The steps at the RBC building

By standing a few feet taller, you’ll be able to see a lot more. The bank, located at the corner of Yonge and Bloor, is a longtime favourite spot so if you want to stand proud on the steps, make sure you get there early.

2 Bloor St. E.

A friend’s apartment

While the Pride Parade is a party in itself, regular parade goers know there are also all sorts of mini-parties happening all along the route. Therefore, for many, the greatest way to celebrate Pride is to make a salsa dip, invite yourself over to your friend’s place, and watch the parade go by with your bests

Anywhere along the parade route

Note: For all those looking to get the best spot, the Pride Parade starts at 2 p.m., begins at Bloor Street and Church Street, makes its way west over to Yonge Street, and then turns off Yonge Street onto Gerrard Street, where it makes its way back east to Church Street.
