Bayview’s newest Vietnamese restaurant is a delight

Plus … new York Mills supermarket offers a “one-stop” shopping alternative

Although the name Vietnamese Delight may seem straightforward enough, the Chinese name for the month-old restaurant is more revealing. “It translates to “fatty beef,”” says Tina Chou. She says a fattier beef is used to make the pho more flavourful. The menu also offers items such as lemon grass chicken with rice for $6.99 (5533 Yonge St., 416-229-4321).

When Sara Jaber first moved from Iran to Canada, she got a job working at Sarah’s House of Beauty. At age 18, she says she was North York’s youngest hairdresser. Now the aptly named hairdresser, who bought the salon from the original Sarah four years ago, is celebrating the house’s twentieth anniversary. Haircuts start at $45 (5469 Yonge St., 416-222-7212).

When Jeffrey Min opened Korean supermarket Galleria in North York back in 2003, he wanted to serve the local Korean population. As for the new Galleria in Bayview, Min says he wanted to bring the experience to the masses. In addition to Korean food, the “one-stop” shop offers clothing, beauty products, a travel agency, and a cafeteria (865 York Mills Rd., 647-352-5004).

For owner Jean Li, it’s time there are more shops in Bayview that cater to younger crowds. Which is why she decided to open jewellery and accessory place Forever Yonge last month. “The stores around here were mostly for elderly people,” she says. Li brings a youthful twist to the area with fashion jewellery, handbags, and accessories (5418 Yonge St., 647-727-2618).
