Area library celebrates centenary

In 2016 Wychwood Library will be celebrating its centenary, an occasion to not only acknowledge the past, but also to look forward to the future as we continue creating and building spaces that connect our residents and strengthen the community.

From its earliest days, the library has always been a hub within Ward 21, going beyond its primary purpose of sourcing books and providing research.

It has been a gathering place for residents from all walks of life who have appreciated its unique architecture, rich history and quaint atmosphere.

With the city funding for libraries being cut, we must ensure that we don’t lose sight of the value that these institutions bring to our lives and to our city. I am committed to working toward investing in libraries and ensuring that they remain relevant in a world overwhelmed by technology.

With the library’s centenary in 2016, there will be an expansion and a development project that will take the library to the next level. Funding from the Library Capital Budget, Section 37 and development charges will go a long way in helping to improve facilities within the library itself and will also allow for the addition of a seniors’ centre.

This exciting project will guarantee that the library remains sustainable and continues to cater to the needs of an ever-increasing senior population.

Residents will have an opportunity to participate in a number of community consultations ensuring that together we create a vision for the Wychwood Library that honours the past and welcomes the future.
