3 amazing ways to give back this long weekend in Toronto

The weekend is fast approaching, and as always, there’s plenty to do and see in the city. But if you’re hoping to make your weekend a little more meaningful, why not try one of these amazing ways to give back? From a pilates in the park fundraiser for mental health to supporting our healthcare system by donating blood, here are three amazing ways to spend your long weekend in Toronto.

Thank you to this week’s sponsor, Canadian Blood Services

Donate blood with the Canadian Blood Services

Our healthcare system is always in need of more blood to perform life-saving operations. Now, with spring and the long weekend ahead, there’s never been a better time to book an appointment to donate blood and give back to your community. If you’re not someone who likes to plan ahead, same-day and open appointment spots are available at each of the downtown Toronto donor centres — located at 67 College St., 163 King St. W. and 2 Bloor St. E. You can check online if you’re eligible to donate, and you can even make a day of it by coordinating your donation appointment with friends and family. Take it a step further by joining or starting a Partners for Life team!  Together, you can make donating blood a new meaningful tradition. Visit blood.ca for more information and to make your appointment today!

Head to the Community Fridges Love Fest

This Sunday at the Tranzac Club, Community Fridges is hosting a Community Love Fest where you can support the group’s initiative while connecting with the community. There are eight community fridges across Toronto, where you can donate fresh produce, snacks and grocery items for those who need it. At the event, you’ll be hearing from speakers from organizations such as Community Fridges Toronto, Toronto Indigenous Harm Reduction and The Bike Brigade, while enjoying free food and drinks from local vendors. Just be sure to bring a non-perishable item with you to donate for the pantries!

Support an important cause with pilates in the park

Want to support a good cause while getting your heart pumping this weekend? Calmheart Studios is hosting a pilates in the park fundraiser this Sunday at Downsview Dells in North York. Calmheart has chosen to dedicate the event to the SickKids Foundation to bring awareness to mental health issues among children. Attendees are asked to donate what they can in advance of the event, and you can reserve your spot here. All you have to bring is a yoga mat and a water bottle and head out to the park— the weather forecast is showing sun and above 20 C temperatures!
